Dr. Sanaz Motamedi is a Research Assistant Professor in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State and Associate Director of BRITE Lab. Her research integrates data analytics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered design to improve complex decision-making, training, and performance outcomes. A central focus of her work is the development and evaluation of responsible and explainable AI approaches that support transparency, trust, and adoption of technology in complex healthcare, transportation, and educational environments. Her work examines how people interact with emerging technologies, how trust in AI-supported systems is formed, and how explainable and responsible AI can be designed to improve decision-making while addressing ethical, behavioral, and societal considerations. Through interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering, health, transportation, and education, she aims to advance technology that is not only effective but also interpretable, trustworthy, and responsive to human needs.
