Zi-Kui Liu

Professor of Material Sciences and Engineering

Zi-Kui Liu is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. He is known for pioneering contributions to computational thermodynamics, multiscale materials modeling, and the integration of quantum, statistical, equilibrium, and nonequilibrium thermodynamics. He coined the term “Materials Genome®” in 2002 and developed the Zentropy framework for predictive understanding of complex systems. Liu is Editor-in-Chief of CALPHAD, a Fellow of ASM International and TMS, and served as the 100th President of ASM International. He has authored more than 800 publications and several books on computational thermodynamics and Zentropy.
